CELEBRITY STYLE: BH 90210

First, I cannot believe it has taken me almost a year to write this blog post!

Last year, in August 2019 I had the chance of a lifetime, or maybe just the chance of my lifetime, to work with my dream show. BH90210!

I grew up in the 80's and 90's and I will never forget the first time I watched Beverly Hills 90210. I was in grade 7 and my brother's friend Dave, from California, told me that this was a new, must see show that was based in his home state that I had to watch. As a young girl who had never been to beautiful California, nor did I live in any kind of luxury like Beverly Hills, I knew that this was indeed a show that I did not want to miss!

If you're like me and you grew up watching the gang from West Beverly, then you know how epic this truly was for me to have my jewelry worn on the reboot! Beverly Hills 90210 was everything. And I mean EVERYTHING growing up. The fashion, the life lessons, the fashion, the hair.... did I mention the fashion?! Of course, let's not forget the dreamy hunks Dylan, Brandon, David and Steve. I was a fan of Brandon and imagined what our wedding and life would have been like together, LOL!!

But on a serious note, the ladies on BH 90210 were the most fashionable gals on television. Well at least in my neighborhood they were. If you're a fan of 90's fashion and style then Beverly Hills 90210 had everything you could have ever dreamed when it came to Levi’s, biker shorts, babydoll everything and bodysuits!

When I first heard that there was going to be a reboot of my favourite show as a teenager, I knew that I had to get my jewelry on it too. I searched high and low to find out who the costume designer would be and sent off an email with fingers crossed. I was so pleased that the original CD, Seth was super happy to work with me and have me send him a selection of jewels for him to choose from and style all the ladies with. Lucky for me they were filming close to home in North Vancouver and I was also able to personally drop off all the jewelry.

I don't normally get star struck at all, but this time was different. I had told myself earlier that year when I heard about the reboot that if I could get my jewelry on Kelly Taylor (that is Jennie Garth's character) that I could do anything. The day that I went to the studio/set to drop off the jewelry I was greeted by the assistant CD and got to sit and chat with her for a bit. She was absolutely lovely as well (as Seth) and I had a sneak peek look at some of the clothing they were going to be using.

As I was leaving and walking back to my car I looked over to my right and saw an awfully familiar place. It was the Peach Pit! It felt so surreal to walk past the front of the building that we had all watched so many times growing up. I felt like I had finally made it in my mind. I got into my car feeling like I was on top of the world and as I started to go back home a song came on the radio and I knew I had finally made it in my own mind and heart. It was the song Hey Look Ma I Made It by Panic At The Disco. It was karma patting me on the back for never giving up all those millions of times that things got hard and I wanted to quit. This story might sound like a tiny little bump in the road for many. But when you have dreams, and goals and aspirations in life and you are able to reach even just a tiny little piece of those things, it really does feel like you've made it. It felt so good leaving the studio and it was a great reminder to myself that all the hard work, long nights, sweat, tears and failures are all worth it to get to your goals. That if you do keep believing and pushing yourself you CAN achieve your goals. I am proof of that and I hope my story about getting my jewelry on this show can give you any inspiration or motivation in your life to keep going and to always believe in yourself.

Now about the reboot. It didn’t go as well as we all had hoped. As a self-described super fan of the show, I was disappointed that it wasn’t what I had wanted it to be. But, I do know a lot of people who really enjoyed it and liked the way they went with the show. I was hoping that they would have given it a second season in the hopes that the rest of us would have gotten on board with the way the show was going, but unfortunately it was cancelled and we never did get that opportunity. But I think it’s tough bringing back shows with such a history to their fan base. Fuller House did an excellent job in their reboot of Full House and I think they really kept true to their fans which is why that was/is such a successful comeback. I was really hoping to see Kelly, Brenda, Brandon and the whole gang as their characters because that’s why I watched the show. But here’s to hoping that we will see the old gang from West Beverly on our TV’s again one day. Until then, here are a few of the pieces that did make it on air and I am so grateful for that!!
